Visited Oak Moor Farm today with my sister as we had bought her an Alpaca walk/experience. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner who let us know that as we were early we would have a short wait whilst he fed and cleaned out the alpacas, we had no problem with this as we sat in the car and took in the amazing views this place has to offer. No more than 10 minutes later and 30 minutes early for the experience were we going in. We met all the alpacas in their own environment, fed them and got to put the harness on. We were given a Fantastic talk about the alpacas and the knowledge the owner has about them is phenomenal, especially all the names and who is who. We had an even better walk with fantastic views and spoke all the way round about the future plans they had! Couldn’t recommend Oak Moor Farm any more, this is a must and we got so much value for money. Highly recommended and We will be going back! Thank you for such a great time.

We visited oak moor farm this morning for an alpaca walk I was bought as a birthday gift. We had the best time! We were greeted by tho owned who was so friendly we were abit early but he came over and said he was just going to feed and muck out the alpacas and he would be straight with us. When we went in we were not disappointed the alpacas are so well cared for and just beautiful they were abit wary at first but that is expected. We had a talk before we went on our walk and were told so much information it was brilliant! And then we got hands on we helped to heard them and also put on their harness. We had jinx and hatchi they were brill. Jinx was being abit stubborn but that made the experience even better I love a bit of sass! We had an amazing walk and the views are to die for! We were give so much information and any questions we had were answered with so much detail and the amount of care that goes into the experience is so lovely. I cannot recommend oak moor farm enough. If you are thinking of doing one of the alpaca experiences do it! You will not be disappointed. We will most definitely be back and I cannot wait! Thank you pal moor farm for an amazing experience and probably the best both day gift I’ve ever had 🦙❤️

Came here with my pup for the secure field and she absolutely loved it! Field was clean with range of toys, treats and fresh water. My girl loved the rope toys and just being able to run care free. The owner was a lovely guy who made us a brew.to keep us warm in the rain. Will definitely come again with pup and recommend to other owners looking for a secure field 🙂

What a lovely experience!! I booked the field the same day, when I arrived a lovely gentleman met us at the carpark and explained and showed us where the field was. Amazing service ! The gentleman has offered us toys, water and poo bags for the dogs and after we were done offered us to use the hose to clean our dogs off. The field is very secure and secluded away from the road, very well looked afterI will definitely recommend and return !!

Absolutely wonderful day out visiting Oak Moor Farm today. I would highly recommend visiting to see the lovely Al Paca’s and you can even take them on a little walk together on the grounds. This would be perfect for couples or even families. The Al Pacas are surprisingly gentle and very good with people who are more nervous like myself. The farm is located within a close drive of both Ashbourne and Leek so would be good for tourists or holiday makers too.

Our first time in a motorhome and boy did we travel!! We went Scotland in the motorhome and it literally was our Hotel on wheels. We did a mix of on site and wild camping amd this motorhome was more than up for the job. A mix of gas and electric this kept us warm all throughout our trip. Its got everything you could ever need for a holiday day on wheels including a toilet, shower, sinks, cooker, fridge, beds, heating, hot water, fresh water, cutlery, pans, plates, and a Tv. Adrian and Claire were only a phonecall away and very down to earth people who want you to have a great holiday, they even gave us forecast warnings of the weather which helped out. We highly recommended these guy's and we are already planning our next trip for the summer. Also I will add we a family of 5 and this was more than enough room. We habe made lifetime memories in this motorhome and we cant wait for our next journey!!

Motorhome hire, the process what so easy to do, owners was so helpful, got shown everything on pick up, they was only a phone call or message away. The motorhome, housed 3 children and 2 adults, great, we really made it home, was so ideal for a trip to Scotland, as we had everything we needed on board.Really happy with the experience from the start of enquiring, to picking up, hiring the motorhome and dropping off.Definitely got a new found love for life on wheels.

Visited between Christmas and New Year with a large family group and had the place to ourselves. The day was very windy but we were able to walk the alpacas anyway. Adrian was a great host and we all learned so much. I’msure we’ll visit again in the summer. A great family meetup and what a treat.

What a treat! We were a party of 4, visiting on 28/10/23. Adrian could not have been more welcoming and knowledgeable. He clearly adores his alpacas, and they him. He spent a lot of time telling us about the herd and their behaviour. We bridled up our alpacas with his help and then went on a long walk around the fields. In all we spent about an hour and a half and loved every minute of it. Gorgeous animals!

Lovely afternoon in the sun with stunning views while we enjoyed our Alpaca experience. 10 animals greeted us with the lovely husband and wife team of Adrian and Claire. They gently introduced us to the herd and gave us some detailed information. We then got hands on to choose and harness our Alpaca. The walk in the Paddock then the fields surrounding the farm was gentle and relaxed. The views were outstanding. Everything about the visit was enjoyed and I'd have no hesitation recommending it. They have a car park, a little shop with snacks and merchandise, and there's a toilet. Not hard for people who are ambulent but dont want a hike. The walk was not very hard and took 40 minutes.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our alpaca walk this morning, though I should really call it an alpaca EXPERIENCE! Adrian and Claire were both really friendly. Adrian took time to tell us all about the alpaca's different personalities. We also enjoyed learning more about these beautiful animals and the animal husbandry involved in keeping them happy and healthy, which was a touch we haven't had on other alpaca walks we've done before. We even got to feed them! This whole experience was wonderful and they have some fantastic plans for next year so we look forward to returning in the summer 2024. Thank you both!

Uhtred was my favourite and had such fun taking him for a walk and he gave me lots of cuddles! Added bonus was being able to buy the fertiliser to use on my veg patch for when we get home 😊

They are both lovely people and it is clear to see the care and love they have for their Alpacas. We were able to meet all of the alpacas and learn about all their individual personalities which added to the special feel of the farm.We fed them, cuddled them, had pictures with them and spent plenty of time taking it all in.Ade & Claire are both incredibly knowledgable and reassuring throughout our visit which enabled us to feel comfortable and at ease within seconds.I am so grateful for our experience today and memories we will think, laugh and talk about forever. It is so exciting to be able to say we’ve visited Oak Moor Farm now as we feel the farm and its success will continue to grow. This is the perfect place to visit for all ages, any occasion and any weather!Do not hesitate to visit Oak Moor Farm, you will not be disappointed! 🫶🏼🦙

I booked the Alpaca experience for my Aunties 70th birthday. I was extremely impressed. When we arrived, they had put up Happy Birthday banners and presented my auntie with a beautiful birthday card. The personal touch was above and beyond. We were given information about the Alpaca's and their individual personalities 😍❤️ We met the whole herd, not just the Alpaca's we were walking 😊 The setting and views were spectacular while walking them. We had photos taken with our phone. Overall, I could not fault it, a wonderful experience, and I would recommend this place to anyone 🥰 Thank you, Ade 😊

We stopped by Oak Moor without a reservation but Adrian and Claire were so kind and accomodating. They introduced us to the alpacas and took the time to chat with us one-on-one - even as they were preparing for a charity event. Our 3 year old daughter was allowed to feed and interact with the alpacas and she absolutely loved! We only stayed for about 20 minutes but we all left with huge smiles on our faces. Our daughter keeps asking when we are going back to see the alpacas again! We definitely had the kind of personal experience you only get at a family-run farm. We highly recommend checking out Oak Moor!

"Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can enjoy today, Enjoy every moment and make memories that will last forever!"

Oak Moor Farm History

Dating back to the 1800’s Oak Moor Farm is a traditional farm set in 11 areas of rolling countryside near Grindon. We purchased Oak Moor in December 2021, and as soon as we set our eyes on this beautiful property, its location, and the endless magnificent views, we instantly fell in love.

Bringing our family to the Peak District was our best decision; our multi-generational living was just what the farm needed.

Although the farm was in reasonably good condition, it needed a lot of love and care, so we jumped into action and decided to concentrate on the outside; the priority had always been to get animals back onto the farm, but not just any animals we had our heart set on Alpacas!

After many months of gruelling hard work to return the land to a ‘habitable and safe’ environment for the Alpacas, we finally welcomed our first herd to the farm.

Having spent many hours with our gentle Alpacas, walking them with families and friends, and genuinely getting to know our herd, we have found them a true pleasure to be around. We want to give everyone the unique opportunity to get up and close to these fantastic gentle creatures and to provide families and people of all ages the chance to meet, walk and hand-feed the Alpacas.

Local Area and Historical Facts

On the doorstep of Oak Moor Farm are the local villages of Grindon and Butterton, within easy access to Thors Cave, Manifold Valley and Alton Towers whilst also on the edge of the Derbyshire Dales.

Built in 1782, The Black Lion is at the heart of Butterton and boasts real olde world charm. On glorious sunny days, bikes are set to one side while cyclists sit in the large beer garden to enjoy refreshments; come the winter months, customers are more likely to crowd around the warmth of the pub’s old range.

St Bartholomew’s Church is a Grade II-listed building built in 1871. The Church has an imposing spire that dominates the local landscape.

Another little-known fact is that Butterton is Staffordshire’s only ‘Doubly Thankful Village’, so-called because all the men from the parish returned safely from both the First and Second World Wars.

Situated north of Grindon Village, there is a memorial for a Halifax aircraft that crashed on Grindon Moor on 13 February 1947. Six RAF men died in the crash; the Halifax bomber was bringing relief to the stricken and remote village during the great blizzard of 1947.
